Gananoque, Ont. (September 13, 2013) - The Queen's Gaels had no trouble finding the back of the net as they defeated the RMC Paladins 7-0 at the annual Lou Jeffries exhibition game held in Gananoque, Ontario.
The Gaels displayed their offensive talent against RMC as they managed to score seven goals in their first exhibition game of the 2014-15 season. Six different skaters registered goals for the Gaels, including Yannick Laflamme (Thetford Mines, Que.), who netted a pair. Goaltenders Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) and Chris Clarke (Fall River, N.S.) were perfect on the night, combining for the 22 save shutout. Final shots in the game were 48-22 in favour of Queen's.
Each year the Lou Jeffries scholarship is awarded to a first year player on the Gaels men's hockey team. This year's recipient of the scholarship was Darcy Greenaway, who just finished playing three years for the Kingston Frontenacs.
Lou Jeffries was a dedicated, community-driven volunteer for the town of Gananoque, Ontario. He was recognized by his love of hockey and his involvement in the Gananoque Minor Hockey Association (GMHA). Jeffries assisted the GMHA for more than 50 years until his death at the age of 75. He is also known for his contribution in bringing Junior B hockey to Gananoque in 1971. Over his lifetime, Jeffries worked in a number of different roles including Coach, General Manager, President and League Executive for the GMHA and Junior B Gananoque Islanders. Â
As a proud supporter of Queen's University hockey, Jeffries was always delighted when a player was able to improve upon their life by moving on to an academic institution or sporting team. Realizing that he played a small part in helping an athlete's dreams come true provided him with great satisfaction.
