The Queen's Gaels are in action on numerous fronts this week. Here's a rundown of when and where to catch your Gaels in action including the game of the week featuring the women's volleyball team Saturday afternoon.
Game of the week
Women's Volleyball: The Gaels game against Waterloo at 1pm on Saturday at the ARC main gym is the game of the week. The women's volleyball team (5-4) will try to start 2014 by snapping a two-game losing streak against the Warriors (3-7), who haven't won a game since early November.
Kelsey Bishop (North Vancouver) leads the Gaels and is seventh in the OUA with 3.78 points per set. After playing Waterloo on Saturday, the Gaels host Guelph on Sunday at 1pm.
Men's Volleyball: Queen's hosts a pair of games this weekend, taking on Waterloo (7-3) on Saturday and Guelph (3-7) on Sunday. Both games start at 3pm.
Philippe Goyer (Ottawa) and
Mike Tomlinson (Stratford, Ont.) lead the Gaels attack, and are 10th and 11th in OUA points per set, respectively. The men's volleyball team (4-6) is 3-2 at home this season, and will look to benefit from home-court advantage this Saturday and Sunday at 3pm.
Men's Hockey: The three top teams in the OUA East do battle this weekend, as the No. 7 Gaels host No. 9 Carleton on Friday and No. 6 McGill on Saturday, with both puck-drops scheduled for 7:30pm at the Memorial Centre. The men's hockey team continued their season-long point-streak into 2014 with a pair of road wins last weekend at UOIT and Laurier, and will look to build on it against this weekend's tough competition.
Women's Hockey: The top team in the OUA, the No. 4 Gaels finished 2013 with just their second loss of the season, and are looking to bounce back on the road against last-place York (3-11-1). Queen's (12-2-3) is captained by
Morgan McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.), who is atop the OUA in scoring with 24 points.Â
Women's Basketball: Queen's, undefeated in five games at home this season, hosts two games this weekend, including the annual Shoot for the Cure game on Saturday against Toronto (3-6) at 6pm. The Gaels (7-3) other game is Friday at 6pm against Ryerson (3-7). After a 14-point and 17-rebound performance last weekend against York,
Robyn Pearson (Toronto) is averaging a double-double with 10.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.
Men's Basketball: The men's basketball team (6-4) hosts No. 4 Ryerson on Friday and Toronto on Saturday, both at 8pm. The Gaels will be looking for revenge against Ryerson (9-1) for a preseason loss, when the Rams topped the Gaels at the Queen's invitational tournament in October. Queen's topped Toronto (2-7) in both of their meetings last season.
