THUNDER BAY, Ont. (January 18, 2014) - The Queen's Gaels (7-7) lost to the Algoma Thunderbirds (4-10) 83-76 on Saturday night, their second straight loss on a long road-trip weekend.
 
The first quarter saw Queen's and Algoma exchanging points pretty evenly until Algoma went on a late run putting them ahead 20-12 at the end of the first. 
Sukhpreet Singh started the second quarter with back to back buckets, but the momentum was short lived by Algoma's three point precision. At the half, the score was 35-27 in favour of Algoma, with Queen's committing 8 turnovers to the Thunderbirds 4.
 
The Gaels trailed by eight at the start of the fourth. The urgency was elevated with the clocking ticking away. Two straight turnovers by Algoma with under 2 minutes left gave Queen's a chance to rally back. One turnover was responded by 
Roshane Roberts hitting a step back 3, and another resulting in a fade away step back base-line two pointer by 
Greg Faulkner. Bringing the game to within 3, the Gaels could not hold out as Reynaldo Carnackie hit a challenged 15-foot fade away the following possession to put his team up by 5 with 23 seconds left on the clock.
 
Algoma's Carnikie finished with a game high of 19 points, while teammate Samy Mohamed tallied 18.

Sukhpreet Singh each scored 17 points and grabbed 7 boards for the Gaels. 
Roshane Roberts, 
Greg Faulkner and 
Mackenzie Simpson also contributed double digits to the score board for Queen's.
 
The Gaels lose their second straight of game on the road, falling to a 7-7 record on the season.
