The Queen's Gaels are in action on numerous fronts this week. Here's a rundown of when and where to catch your Gaels in action including the games of the week featuring the women's and men's volleyball teams Friday night.
GAMES OF THE WEEK
Men's and Women's Volleyball: Both volleyball teams are in action at home against the York Lions Friday night in this edition of the games of the week. The women (2-1) start at 6pm against the No. 4 Lions squad, with the men (2-0) to follow at 8. York sits atop the OUA standings on the women's side with a 5-0 record, only having lost one set this season. York's men's team is also enjoying a spot atop the OUA standings with a 4-2 record. The Gaels are playing catch-up in the standings, with the women only having played three games and the men only having played two. Both Gaels squads are also in action against Nipissing on Saturday at the ARC main gym, with the women at 6pm and the men at 8pm.
Football: The Gaels are on the road to play in the 106th Yates Cup against the Western Mustangs. Stay tuned to gogaelsgo.com for a full preview.
Cross Country: The men are ranked 6th and the women are ranked 4th in the country heading into this weekend's CIS Championship in London. Action gets underway on Saturday at 11am. Guelph took home the banners on the men's and women's sides last year, while Queen's finished in 5th and 11th, respectively.
Men's Hockey: The Gaels host a 7:30pm game Friday against Toronto at the Memorial Centre. The men's hockey team has yet to lose in regulation with a 4-0-4 record for 1st in the OUA East, and look to continue to take points away from every game. The Ryerson Rams forefeited their Saturday game against Queen's due to sanctions against the team. The game has been cancelled and Queen's credited with the win.
Women's Hockey: The No. 3 Gaels host games against Toronto (6-1-1) on Saturday at 3:30pm and Ryerson (3-5-0) at 3pm on Sunday. The Gaels (6-0-3) are on a season-long point-streak, sitting atop the OUA with zero regulation losses. The Gaels have three OUA top-ten scorers: rookie
Clare McKellar (London, Ont.) in third with seven goals and four assists,
Shawna Griffin (Redwood Meadows, Alta.) in eighth with five goals and five assists, and
Taryn Pilon (Peterborough, Ont.) in ninth with four goals and six assists.
Women's Basketball: The women's basketball team is on the road this weekend, playing Western Friday and No. 2 Windsor Saturday, with both games tipping off at 6pm. The Gaels are fresh off a pair of narrow victories over Lakehead and Guelph to start the season 2-0, while Western and Windsor both split their season openers.
Men's Basketball: The Gaels hit the road in men's basketball this weekend to play Western on Friday and No. 7 Windsor on Saturday, with both games starting at 8pm. The Gaels (2-0) won their opening games against Lakehead and Guelph by a combined spread of 44 points. Western and Windsor are both 0-2 to start the year.
