Staehli named All-Canadian, men finish fifth at CIS Cross-Country Championship

KINGSTON, Ont. – Rookie Julie-Ann Staehli led the Queen's Gaels cross country team, as she was named a Second Team All-Canadian at the 2012 CIS Championships in London, Ontario. The Lucknow, Ontario native completed the 5k course in a time of 17:58, giving her 14th place, and an All-Canadian berth.
 
On the men's side, the Gaels put together a balanced performance to finish in fifth place with 162 points overall. Jeff Archer (Kingston, Ont.) was the Gaels' leading runner, as he completed the 10 km course in 32:26, finishing in 19th place. Clay Patterson (Portland, Ont.) was close behind, finishing in 32:29 and in 22nd place. Nick McGraw (Kingston, Ont.), who was in 33rd place with a time of 32:49, David Cashin (Pembroke, Ont.), who was 44th after posting a time of 33:10 and Tyson Loney (Ottawa, Ont.), who was 51st with a time of 33:21, rounded out the Queen's scorers. Veteran Jeff Costen (Toronto, Ont.) who finished in 33:29, and rookie Jacob Cameron (Green Valley, Ont.), who was one second behind, finished in 56th and 57th place.
 
The men's event was won by the Guelph Gryphons, who scored 38 points, while the individual champion was Kelly Wiebe, who ran a course-record 30:21.
 
The Gaels women finished in 11th place with 273 points. After Staehli, who scored 13 points, Marie Soehl (Bedford, N.S.) finished in 61st place with a time of 19:18, while Meghan Tait (Newmarket, Ont.) was 15 seconds behind in 72nd place, Veronica Allan (Shallow Lake, Ont.) finished in 19:41 (77th place) and Erin Slade (Delta, B.C.) was 81st overall, with a time of 19:48.
 
The women's banner was also won by the Gryphons, who scored 21 points – only six more than the minimum possible – and Guelph's Andrea Seccafien was the individual champion with a time of17:23.
