The Queen's Gaels are in action on numerous fronts this week. Here's a rundown of when and where to catch your Gaels in action including the game of the week featuring the defending OUA champion men's rugby team in thier OUA Semifinal.
GAME OF THE WEEK
Men's Rugby: The men's rugby OUA semifinal on Saturday at 1pm on Nixon Field is the game of the week. The Gaels rounded out their regular season play with a 55-5 beating of Brock, giving Queen's an undefeated 7-0 record heading into the playoffs. Earning first-place in the league, the Gaels have a bye through to the semis, and await the lowest seed of to make it through the quarter-final matches, Brock vs. McMaster and RMC vs. Guelph. The Gaels have beaten every team in the league, and look to continue their winning ways in their first playoff game of 2013 on Saturday at 1pm.
PLAYOFFS AND CHAMPIONSHIPS
Women's Rugby: Playing in the OUA title game for the second consecutive year, the women's rugby team travels to Guelph looking for retribution, as the Gryphons beat Queen's at home in last year's Championship game 10-6. The game starts at 1pm, with both teams having already qualified for the CIS National Championship, which gets underway on October 31st.
Women's Soccer: Hosting the OUA East quarter-finals because of a fourth place finish, the women's soccer team plays the fifth place Laurentian Voyageurs on Wednesday at 3pm on the West Campus Turf Field. In their two games this year, the Gaels beat Laurentian on the road in September and the teams played to a scoreless draw on the closing weekend of regular season action at Queen's. With a win on Wednesday, the Gaels will continue their playoff run this weekend.
Men's Soccer: On Wednesday at 5:15pm, the men's soccer team hosts the OUA East quarter-final against the sixth place Nipissing Lakers on the West Campus Turf Field. The Gaels finished the regular season in third place in the OUA East, one point ahead of the fourth and fifth place teams, with a 7-0 win over the Lakers on the final day of regular season play. The Gaels were 3-0 winners when they played at Nipissing in September. A win on Wednesday will have to Gaels continuing their playoff action on Sunday.
Cross Country: The cross country team is running at the OUA Championship this weekend hosted by McMaster in Hamilton. At last year's Championship, the Gaels placed third on the men's side and sixth on the women's side.
Rowing: The rowing team travels to St. Catherines, Ont. this weekend for the OUA Championship on Saturday, getting underway at 9am.
Field Hockey:Â The field hockey team is headed to the women's OUA Championship this weekend at York University. Action is spread between Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Men's Lacrosse:Â The men's lacrosse team hosts a wild-card playoff game against Trent on Saturday at 1pm. Queen's beat Trent 16-11 last weekend.
REGULAR SEASON/EXHIBITION
Women's Hockey: The women's hockey team has two games this weekend, traveling to play UOIT on Friday at 7:30pm and hosting the York Lions on Saturday at 7:30pm at the Memorial Centre. The Gaels look to improve on their 4-0-1 record and get retribution against UOIT, who handed Queen's their only loss in overtime of their season-opener.
Men's Hockey: On the road this weekend, the men's hockey team plays at Nipissing on Friday at 7pm and at Laurentian on Saturday at 7:30pm. The Gaels have taken points away from all of their games so far this season, with a 1-0-2 record heading into this weekend.
Women's Volleyball: Kicking off their season on the road, the women's volleyball team plays the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday at 7pm and then travels to play the Brock Badgers on Sunday at 1pm.
Men's Volleyball: The men's volleyball team travels to Guelph for their season-opener Friday night at 8pm.
Women's Basketball: In their final pre-season game, the women's basketball team travels to Montreal to play UQAM on Friday night at 6pm. The Gaels' regular season begins November 1st against Lakehead.
