KINGSTON, Ont. - A bronze medal finish by the Men's Cross-Country team highlighted a strong Gaels performance at the 2012 OUA Championships at the Kingbridge Centre in King City, Ont. The Gaels scored 86 points to finish in third place, led by solid performances from Second Team OUA All-Stars Jeff Archer and Tyson Loney.
Archer led the Gaels with a tenth-place finish, crossing the line in 33:25.33, while Loney broke the tape 19 seconds later at 33:44.42, good for a 14th-place finish. Nick McGraw (16th, 33:49.69), Clay Patterson (20th, 33:57.86), and David Cashin (26th, 34:12.69) rounded out the scorers for Queen's.
Ross Proudfoot's winning time of 32:06.17 led a Guelph sweep of the top three finishes, and the team title, on the 10 km course. Windsor finished second in the team standings, with 63 points.
On the women's side, Julie-Anne Staelhi capped off her rookie year with another solid run, finishing sixth in a time of 18:19.15 over the 5 km course. The First Team OUA All-Star was 35 seconds behind the race champion, Genevieve Lalonde of Guelph, whose winning time was 17:45.96.
The Gaels women finished sixth overall out of 15 teams, with 161 points. The other Queen's scorers were
Charlotte Dunlap (25th, 19:25.54),
Veronica Allan (39th, 19:56.78),
Erin Slade (43rd, 20:05.85), and
Meghan Tait (48th, 20:16.21).
Guelph continued its sweep of the meet, winning the team title with a total of 21 points, while McMaster (50 points) and Western (101 points) rounded out the top three
Cross-country's next action will be at the CIS Championships on Saturday, November 10th at the Thames Valley Golf Club in London, Ont.
