Kelly Jackson's hat-trick leads Gaels over Varsity Blues 6-2

BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (January 25, 2013) - Kelly Jackson (Scarborough, Ont.) had a hat trick for the Queen's Gaels (9-9-5) in a 6-2 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues (12-8-4) at the Kingston Memorial Centre Friday night.

The first period got off to a quick start with both teams putting up a number of scoring chances. Brandon Perry (Timmins, Ont.) scored for the Gaels from the left side of the net at the 14:14 mark putting Queen's up 1-0; Brock Ouellet (Lindsay, Ont.) and Patrick McEachen (Stouffville, Ont.) had assists. Minutes later at the 16:42 mark, Jeff Brown (Toronto, Ont.) scored for the Varsity Blues putting the score at 1-1.

The Varsity Blues opened the scoring in the second period with a powerplay goal by Michael Markovic (Toronto, Ont.) at 6:09 putting Toronto up 2-1. Queen's answered with a powerplay goal off the faceoff scored by Jackson to even the score 2-2; Corey Bureau (Amherstview, Ont.) and McEachen added assists. Jackson added another goal for the Gaels at 9:34 giving the Gaels a one goal advantage; Jordan Mirwaldt (Winnipeg, Man.) and Tyler Moore (Winnipeg, Man.) had assists. The remainder of the second period was action packed and the score remained 3-2 heading into the final period for Queen's.

Taylor Clements (Toronto, Ont.) scored for the Gaels at the 11:10 mark of the third period with assists from Brendon MacDonald (Calgary, Alta.) and Braeden Corbeth (Oakville, Ont.). Jackson scored his third goal of the night for the Gaels at 13:17 putting the Gaels up 5-2. McEachen added another goal for Queen's at the 16:55 mark with assists from Bureau and Stephane Chabot (Rockland, Ont.) bringing the game to its final score of 6-2.

Riley Whitlock (Calgary, Alta.) had 36 saves for the Gaels, while Garrett Sheehan (Cremona, Alta.) stopped 29 shots for the Varsity Blues.

The Gaels return to action tomorrow as they host the Nipissing Lakers. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Kingston Memorial Centre.
