KINGSTON, Ont. (October 7, 2011) -
Joren Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont. had 17 kills but it wasn't enough as the visiting Laval Rouge et Or narrowly defeated the Gaels 3-1 in the Gaels first exhibition match of the season.
Laval took a close first set 25-21, but the Gaels came back strong in the second pushing the set to extra's only to narrowly miss out on the win with a 28-26 loss. In the third Zeeman and the Gaels bounced back with a strong 25-23 set win.
In the end Laval pulled out the fourth set victory 25-21 to take the match 3-1.
Zeeman led all Gaels with 17 kills,
Will Sidgwick of Toronto had 11 while Michael Amaroso finished with nine and two blocks.
The Gaels will look for revenge tomorrow afternoon as they host Laval at 4pm.
The team will then play host to the Coast-to-Coast volleyball invitational from October 14-16. The tournament is a preview of the CIS Championships to be hosted by Queen's University March 2-4, 2012.
