KINGSTON, Ont. (October 1, 2011) –
Nikola Misljencevic of Ottawa scored 21 points in the exhibition opener for the Gaels leading them to a 70-58 victory over St. Lawrence College. The game was part of the Triple Threat series, where fans are encouraged to contribute donations to go towards cancer research. The Gaels managed to raise nearly $500 on the night.
Things were close in the first quarter. The Gaels were only up one, but in the second quarter it was all Gaels, as they outscored the Vikings 21-6. The Gaels led by fourteen going into half, ending with a last second lay in from
Ryan Golden of Barrie, Ont.. Misljencevic led Queen's with 13 points. The Gaels shot 41% in the first half.
The Vikings rallied back in the second half, outscoring the Gaels 22-17 in the third. With 4:29 left in the game, St Lawrence brought the score within six, after five straight turnovers from Queen's. Veteran
Matthew Baker of Kingston, Ont. stopped the run with a clutch three pointer. The Gaels coasted from there to a 70-58 win.
Mislenjencevic scored 21 points on 10 for 16 shooting while grabbing eight boards for the Gaels.
Scott Morrison of Toronto added 10, eight of which came in the second half.
The Gaels are back in action Monday night when they take on the Royal Military College at RMC.
