OTTAWA (January 17, 2011) - Despite the absence of three A-team fencers, Queen's Fencing brought home medals in Men's Sabre and Women's Épeé at the January 14-15 Carleton Invitational.
On Saturday, Men's Sabre A (
Scott Bowman, Frank Beaucage-Gauvreau, Greg Nonato) fought their bouts of the season to take the gold. Men's Épeé A (
Mario Gibney,
Danny Jang,
Justin Kim) fought to an 8th place, and Women's Foil A (rookie Anna Rogers, Sarah Patterson, Faye Sun, Rachel Zhang) just missed the medal round and finished 5th.
On Sunday, Women's Épeé A (
Laura Bartha,
Janice Lao, Sarah Kim, and
Nora Magyarody) fenced strongly to take the bronze. Women's Sabre A (
Safia Dhanji, Jackie Loiselle, Kristina Enciso and rookie Julia Meerakker) took 4th spot. And Men's Foil A (
Christian Petrozza,
Dean Loubert, and Chris Perez) finished in 5th place.
Queen's Fencing will compete next in the OUA Championships. The Women's championship will be at RMC, February 5 and 6 while the Men's will take place at Brock February 19 and 20.
