KINGSTON, Ont. (February 26, 2010) –
Joren Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont. had a game-high 15 points while four teammates broke double-digit scoring as the Queen's Gaels (17-4) swept the Toronto Varsity Blues (10-11), 3-0 in the OUA men's volleyball quarter-final match.
With the win, Queen's qualifies for the OUA Final Four tournament set for next weekend in Hamilton, Ont. The Gaels are looking to claim their third OUA championship title in five seasons as well as a berth into the CIS championship in Kamloops, B.C., from March 12-14.
Toronto failed to find any momentum in the opening two sets with the Gaels winning easily 25-15 and 25-14. With their season on the line, the third set saw a much different Varsity Blues team taking the Gaels to the limit with a final score of 27-25.
Zeeman tallied 15 points, on 10 kills, two blocks, and three aces.
Sam Pedlow of Barrie, Ont., and
Niko Rukavina of Mississauga, Ont., had 11 points each while
Bryan Fautley of Oakville, Ont., and
Michael Amoroso of Toronto had 10 in a total team effort by Queen's.
Daniel Rosenbaum of Hamilton was credited with 35 assists and
Alex Oneid of Ottawa had a game-high eight digs.
Mitchell Woodside of Clyde River, PEI, and Adam Palmer of Ottawa led Toronto's scorers with eight points each. Woodside had six kills with two blocks while Palmer registered his points on two kills and six blocks. OUA leading scorer Steven Kung of Toronto was held to just seven points.
Toronto's setter Deagan McDonald of Calgary had 15 assist in the loss.
OUA quarter-final games continue tomorrow with Guelph meetings Windsor at 2:00pm in Windsor, Ont., and Waterloo taking on Western at 4:00pm in London, Ont. The Gaels will meet the winner of the Waterloo vs Western quarter-final game, on Friday, Mar. 5. at 8:00pm in Hamilton.

Michael Amoroso and Varsity Blues player Steven Kung were named to the OUA All-Star Team. All three players earned first team honours... Queen's needed only an hour and 13 minutes to end the Varsity Blues' season.
