Gaels fall 4-1 to Ravens; series tied one game apiece

| By:
KINGSTON, Ont. (February 19, 2010) – Steele De Fazio, of Georgetown, Ont., made 30 saves but it was not enough as the Queen's Gaels men's hockey team fell 4-1 to the Carleton Ravens in the second game of the best of three series. With the win, the Ravens tie the best of three series 1-1 with the final game set for Sunday at 3:00pm in Ottawa.

Justin Caruana, of Orono, Ont., opened the scoring for Carleton just over eight minutes into the game with his second of the series. The Gaels carried the 1-0 deficit into the first intermission.

In the second, the Ravens rallied for three unanswered goals with Ryan Medel of Ruthven, Ont. scoring his first of the series just five minutes into the period to start the three goal flood.

A power play goal by Yves Bastien of Dowling, Ont., on a beautiful tip-in combined with a late goal by Chris Downie (Burlington, Ont.) off a rebound on a two on one gave the Ravens all the scoring they would need taking the 4-0 lead into the third period.

Ben Munroe of Kingston, Ont., scored a goal with 11:19 left in the third to make the score 4-1 but that was as close as the Gaels would get.

Queen's power play was able to get good shots but Alexander Archibald of Ottawa and the Ravens defence were able to stop the Gaels on all six of their opportunities. Overall, Archibald played well stopping 31 of 32 shots giving him his first victory of the 2009-10 playoffs.

The loss for the Gaels evens the series at one game apiece as the action now shifts back to Ottawa for the third and final game with the winner moving on to the OUA East Semifinals.

NOTES: The Gaels have a 2-2 record against the Ravens this season... the winner of their fifth and final game of the season will take the season advantage and keep their Queen's Cup aspirations alive.
