Gaels give up three unanswered goals, lose to Warriors 4-3 in OT

KINGSTON, Ont., (November 27, 2010) – The Queen's Gaels gave up two straight goals in the third period and the game winning goal in overtime as they fell 4-3 to the Waterloo Warriors in OUA men's hockey action on Saturday.

Defenceman Kyle Sonnernburg of Waterloo, Ont., was the hero for Waterloo scoring the game tying and game winner to hand the Warriors their 10th win of the season.

Queen's looked to have the game in hand holding a 3-1 lead heading into the final five minutes of the, however Jarrett Schnurr of Waterloo, Ont., netted a shorthanded goal with 4:04 remaining making the score 3-2.

Sonnernburg scored a powerplay marker to tie the game with 1:07 remaining in the third and then notched the game winner just three minutes into the overtime frame.

Scott Kenway of Calgary opened the scoring for the Gaels in the first period netting his team leading eighth goal of the season

Joey Derochie of Sudbury, Ont., and Jordon Mirwaldt of Winnipeg, Man., recorded Queen's next two goals in the first 10 minutes of the third period handing what looked like a safe 3-1 lead. Derochie's goal came shorthanded.

Waterloo's Tyler Moir of Calgary would score the only goal in the second period. He would also add a lone assist on the game tying goal in the third.

Queen's David Aime of Clandeboye, Man., faced 43 shots in the game turning aside 39, while Keaton Hartigan of Kitchener, Ont., made 35 saves on 38 shots for the win.

The loss is Queen's sixth straight and their record falls to 5-8-1. Waterloo improves to 10-5-0.

Queen's final game of the 2010 calendar year is set for next Saturday against UQTR in Trois Rivieres, Que., with the puck dropping at 7:00pm. Following that the Gaels will break over the holidays until they face RMC at the Kingston Memorial Centre on Jan. 6.
