ST. JOHN'S, Nfld (October 17, 2010) – The Queen's Gaels women's basketball squad took the final game of a three game series over Memorial University on Sunday winning 68-60 at the City Stars Gym in downtown St. John's, Nfld on Sunday morning.
Rachael Urosevic of Waterloo, Ont. was Queen's top scorer tallying 13 points including four three pointers.
Paige Robinson of Calgary and
Liz Boag of Kingston, Ont., each had 11 points. Boag posted two three pointers including a key game changing three pointer in the fourth quarter.
The Gaels held a 15 point advantage on Memorial heading into the half, but a poor start to the third quarter saw Queen's down by a point 50-49 heading into the final frame. Queen's regained the lead with just three minutes left in the game.
“Overall a very productive weekend,” said Head Coach
Dave Wilson. “We still have a lot of things to work on including turnovers, but we did get better as the weekend progressed.”
On Friday, the Gaels opened the three game series against Memorial with a low scoring 54-44 loss.
Sydney Kernahan of Calgary and
Meaghan MacDougall of Martintown, Ont. were the Gaels leading scorers posting 11 points each. Kernahan also contributed six rebounds. Jordon Tomas of Waterloo, Ont. had nine points and six rebounds while fifth year veteran
Jill Wheat of Marwayne, Alta., led Queen's with nine rebounds.
Saturday's action shifted to Placentia, Nfld., where the Gaels and Sea-Hawks competed in at newly opened Laval High School. That game saw the Gaels squander a 35-26 halftime lead to lose 67-59
Lisa Minutillo of Brantford, Ont., MacDougall and Urosevic were to top scores for Queen's collecting nine points each. Tomas and Robinson picked up seven points in the loss.
