Gaels lose heartbreaker to Carleton 64-62

OTTAWA (January 22, 2010) – Queen's women's basketball lost a nail bitter 64-62 to the Carleton Ravens in a battle for first place in the OUA East. The Ravens improve to 10-4 while Queen's moves to 9-6.

The loss puts Queen's into a four-way tie for second place with Laurentian, Ottawa and Ryerson who all have 18-points. The Gaels will tangle with Ottawa tomorrow evening with tip-off scheduled for 6:00pm at the University of Ottawa. Ottawa and Carleton both have a game in hand on Queen's, Ryerson and Laurentian.

Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont., and Katie Guthrie of Orillia, Ont., each had 18 points in the loss. Guthrie was sharp converting six of her eight attempts in 31 minutes played. Erin Skippon of Kelowna, B.C., was Queen's top rebounder with five. With her 18 points, Moore now ranks sixth in the nation in scoring.

Ashleigh Cleary of Kemptville, Ont., was the Raven's top scorer recording 12 points in the win. Carleton's Kendall Macleod of Brockville, Ont., had eight rebounds.

Queen's next home game is next weekend against the Laurentian Voyageurs on January 29. That game will mark Queen's inaugural game in the Athletics & Recreations Centre (ARC) – Main Gym.
