KINGSTON Ont. (November 21, 2009) –
Bryan Fautley of Oakville, Ont., had another stellar performance in the Gaels 3-1 win over the Ryerson Rams in Kingston Saturday evening.
Fautley had 18 blocks, 3 digs, and 2 aces to make a weekend total of 29 kills and 9 digs. The game marks the last volleyball game in Bartlett Gymnasium before the Gaels move to the new Queen's Centre.
Fautley started the game swinging, helping the Gaels take a quick lead over the Rams in the first set. Queen's easily won the first set 25-13.
The second set saw Queen's setter
Jackson Dakin of Courtenay, B.C., work seamlessly setting up the Gaels' hitters.
Joren Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont., had a strong game with some huge hits late in the second set to pull the Gaels ahead for a 25-23 set win.
The Gaels seemed destined to have their second sweep of the weekend, but the Rams came out firing in the third set. Chris McLaughlin of Ryerson had string of hard kills which left the Gaels scrambling, narrowly losing the set 25-23.
The Gaels came into the fourth set determined to finish off the game. Fautley had five kills in the final set alone to win the set 25-19. The Gaels win over Ryerson improves their record to 8-2 as they continue to be one of the top teams in the OUA.
The Gaels next game is January 15, 2010 against RMC.
