Mitch Leger of Kingston, Ont. recorded 21 points and added 10 rebounds to help the Queen's Gaels upset the No. 6 ranked Windsor Lancers 73-64 at the St. Denis Centre in Windsor, Ont.
Queen's exploded for a 17-8 lead after the first quarter with strong interior play by Leger. Queen's continued its strong play in the second but the Lancers responded with 26 in the second to earn a 34-34 tie heading into the half
In the second half, the Gaels used a 7-0 run in the third quarter to regain the momentum and hung on late for the 73-64 upset victory.
Baris Ondul of Istanbul, Turkey tallied 16 points while
Ryan Hairsine of St. Mary's, Ont., contributed 10 points in the Gaels victory. #
Bernard Burgesson# of Port Hawkesbury, N.S., added nine points and seven rebounds.
John Woldu of London, Ont., was Windsor's top scorer dropping 13 points while Andre Smyth of Windsor, Ont., recorded a double double tallying 10 points and 10 rebounds. In all four Lancers recorded 10 points.
Windsor shot only 33% on the night as they finished 23 of 69 from the field.
Queen's records their second win and are riding a two game winning streak after starting the season 0-3. The loss hands Windsor its second loss and they sit at 3-2 on the year.
Tomorrow Queen's travels to London, Ont., to contend against the Western Mustangs (3-2). Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00pm
