Oh, so close - Western edges Gaels 8-7 in OUA semifinal

HAMILTON, Ont. (October 31, 2009) - Western ended Queen's four-year run as silver medalist in OUA women's lacrosse, edging the Gaels 8-7 in the OUA semifinal held Saturday afternoon in Hamilton, Ont.

Mustangs' Nicole Pullen of Orangeville, Ont., had four goals in Western's narrow win over the Gaels. Jackie Byers of Mississauga, Ont., and Marsha Cryderman of Bowmanville, Ont. each had two goals for the Gaels with Cryderman recording an additional assist to lead Queen's with three points.

Heading into today's game, Queen's was aiming for its fifth consecutive berth into the OUA championship game. Tomorrow the Gaels will contend against the University of Toronto Blues in the OUA bronze medal match. Toronto, undefeated heading into today semifinal match lost 8-7 to Laurier.

The OUA bronze medal game will begin at 12:00pm in Hamilton, Ont., with the Gold Medal game between Laurier and Western set for 2:00pm.
