KINGSTON, Ont. (October 30, 2009) – Led by
Brittany Moore's 21 points, the Queen's Gaels opened their 2009-10 season with a 73-27 win over the RMC Paladins.
Moore (Hannon, Ont.), who added three rebounds and two assists in the game, was 7 of 14 from the floor and 4 of 8 from behind the arc.
After a close first quarter, the Gaels stepped up their defensive pressure in the second and held the Paladins to just two points. With the defence playing well, the Gaels managed to open up a comfortable lead and led 27-12 at the half.
Coming out of the break, the Gaels showed their offensive arsenal as they put up 22 points in the quarter. Moore was especially deadly, as she created headaches for the RMC defenders with her ability to score both inside and out.
With the game well in hand in the fourth, Coach Wilson was able to spread around the minutes and get his bench players some playing time early in the season.
Emma Glasgow, a rookie from Orillia, Ont., benefited from the playing time as she scored 11 points in just seven minutes of action.
Erin Skippon of Kelowna, B.C., also had a solid opening game for Queen's as she scored 14 points and added six rebounds.
The Gaels are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host the UQAM Citadins in an exhibition matchup. Tipoff is set for 4:00 pm at Bartlett Gym.
