MONTREAL (October 3, 2009) –
Sarah Goldspink, of Mississauga Ont., scored eight goals over two-games lifting the Queen's women's lacrosse to a two-game sweep over Guelph and McGill on Saturday.
The two wins broke a two game losing streak and improved the Gaels record to 4-3 vaulting Queen's into a three-way tie for second place in the OUA.
In the morning match against Guelph, the Gaels came out offensively strong led by Goldspink's contiuous drives to the net allowing her to score a double hat-trick.
Martha Ross, of Newton Mass, picked up four goals in the match with her strong footwork. The final score of the game left the Gaels victorious 20-11.
The Gaels' continued their winning momentum into their second match against the home team – the McGill Martlets. Jackie Byers, of Mississauga Ont., and
Lisa McLaughlin, of Whitby Ont., scored four goals apiece in the game. Goldspink and Ross again let their offensive presence be known, each scoring twice. Queen's won 18-13, capping of the weekend with two wins.
Queen's plays again next Saturday at McMaster where they will attempt to defeat the Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks and the McMaster Marauders.
