HAMILTON, Ont. (October 10, 2009) – The Gaels had to fight hard to pull out a 12-10 win against their rival Laurier Golden Hawks, before putting on a 13-4 scoring display against the host McMaster Marauders in women's lacrosse.
After a close first half that saw the score tied at 6-6, the Gaels weren't able to hold off Laurier, falling behind by two goals. However, a late second half charge by Queen's was enough to put them into a win column with a nail biting 12-10 victory. Seven different Gaels found the back of the net, while goalie
Laura Cuthbertson (Kingston, Ont.) saw 9 shots.
The second game of the day saw the Gaels face McMaster, walking away with a commanding 13-4 victory. Jackie Byers (Mississauga, Ont.) had four goals to pace the Gaels, who saw contributions from 8 different players.
The Gaels (6-3) return home for a weekend off before hosting a trio of games on October 24th and 25th to conclude the season. Queen's currently sits tied with Toronto (6-0) with 12 points but the Varsity Blues have three games in hand.
OUA Semi-finals begin on October 31st at McMaster.
