Gaels dominate boards in 72-33 victory over RMC

Kingston, Ont. (January 7, 2009) – Queen's men's basketball opened up the second half of the regular season on Wednesday night recording 59 rebounds in a 72-33 victory over the Royal Military College.

Mitch Leger of Kingston, Ont., would pull down 11 of the team's 59 total rebounds and went on to lead the Gaels in scoring with 16. Scott Stinson of North Bay, Ont., and Ryan Hairsine of St. Marys, Ont. would follow up with seven rebounds each. In total, eleven players tallied rebounds with seven Gaels recording five or more.

Queen's would hit eight three pointers in the first quarter while tallying 30 points to take a commanding 22 point lead. The Gaels then turned to its defense holding the Paladins to just 15 points in the first half.

The Gaels continued their stifling defence in the second half allowing only 18 points to conclude the game while posting 29 of their own to finish the score at 72-33.

Leading the Paladins in scoring was Matthew Wookey of Sarnia, Ont. who posted 12 points and four rebounds. The 33 points was the lowest score recorded by RMC this season.

Queen's are now riding a two game winning streak and will play twice over the weekend. Queen's tackles the York Lions on Friday (8pm) and follow up against Laurentian on Saturday (8pm).
