Windsor, Ont. (January 30, 2009) –
Joren Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont., had a game high 18 kills recording 20 points as the Queen's men's volleyball team defeated the Windsor Lancers 3-1 on Friday.
Including Zeeman's 18 kills, Queen's had five players producing double digit kills including
Niko Rukavina (14) of Mississauga, Ont.,
Jeff DeMeza (13) of Calgary, Mike Amoroso (12) of Toronto (12), and
Sam Pedlow (10) of Barrie, Ont., en route to their fourth straight victory with set scores of 25-15, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19.
After a taking the first set by ten points, Windsor battled to earn the second set and narrowly fell in the third set. The Gaels rebounded to take the final set 25-19.
Windsor's Stephen Gomes of Techumseh, Ont., lead the Lancers with 14 kills, one block, and an ace for 16 points.
Queen's setter
Dan Rosenbaum of Hamilton, produced a total of 61 assists, three blocks, and an ace for the Gaels in the victory while Windsor setter Adam Prieur of Techumseh, Ont., finished with 31 assists in the four sets played.
Following the game, Queen's got a pleasant surprise as they moved into a first place tie with McMaster. McMaster were upset 3-2 by the Toronto Varsity Blues earlier on Friday evening.
Queen's travels to London, Ont., tomorrow to play third place Western Mustangs. Western holds the series advantage 1-0 with a 3-2 victory earlier this year in Kingston, Ont. Game time is scheduled for 8:00pm.
