Gaels ‘shoot for a cure’
Kingston, Ont. (January 28, 2009) - The Gaels will think pink on Friday as the women's basketball team will participate in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) 'Shoot For a Cure' initiative against Ryerson.

To help raise awareness and funding for research, the Queen's will donate ticket revenue from the women's and men's game to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation as they aim to create a future without breast cancer. Additionally, fans are asked to wear pink to show their support while encouraged to make donations for the cause.

Schools from across the CIS have contributed to this initiative all season long and Queen's will show its support on Friday inside Bartlett Gymnasium on campus.

The Gaels are coming off a wild victory over the Carleton Ravens and will turn to Ontario University Athletics (OUA) leading scorer Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont. to knock off sixth place Ryerson. Moore has averaged 19.6 points per game hitting a league high 46 three-pointers. Second year Alina Porter of Burlington, Ont. will also be a focus for the Rams defence as she averages over 10 points per game.

Ryerson brings a well rounded offense with four of their top five scorers recording more than 100 points. Leading the Rams is Burlington natives Lisa Goldring and Jenny Hobbs. Goldring has 169 points, averaging 11.3 points per game while Hobbs is just one point behind with 168, averaging 10.5 points per game.

Ryerson (6-10) holds on to the final playoff position just two points behind Queen's (7-9) who are in tied for fourth place with Laurentian (7-9).

The game is set for 6:00pm on Friday night with the men's game also supporting breast cancer scheduled for an 8:00pm tip-off

NOTES: Queen's men's rugby will be in attendance to show their support of the cause which is near and dear to their hearts. Each year the rugby team takes part in the CIBC Run For the Cure; this year the team raised over 21,000 for the cause
