Gaels streak halted at seven

Gaels seven game winning streak snapped with 3-2 loss to Waterloo
Waterloo, Ont.(January 16, 2009) - Queen's men's volleyball seven game winning streak came to a halt as they fell to the Waterloo Warriors 3-2 Friday in Waterloo.

The Gaels caputred the opening set 25-13 and then survived a marthan 32-30 second set. Waterloo battled to tie the game winning the third, and fourth sets 25-23 respectfully. Using the momentum Waterloo took the final deciding set 15-12.

Niko Rukavina of Mississauga, Ont. finished with a game high 20 points knocking 18 kills and two aces for the Gaels, while fifth year Outside Jeff DeMeza of Calgary recorded 14 points on 12 kills and three stuff blocks.

Waterloo was guided by Calgary natives Brett Campbell and Cameron Dunning scoring 17 points each. They combed for 31 kills and 15 digs. Tyler Vivian of Mitchell, Ont. was the Warrior's leading scorer with 18 points.

Queen's maintains second position (10-3) in the Ontario Univeristy Athletics (OUA) holding a two point advantage over the Western Mustangs (9-4).

The Gaels remain in Waterloo as they play the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks tommorrow. Laurier sits in a three way tie for fourth with Guelph and Waterloo, game time is scheduled for 8:00pm.
