Toronto (September 28, 2008) – Queen's women's lacrosse walked away with two decisive victories this weekend, but lost a crucial match-up to first place Laurier
On Saturday, the Gaels took on the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks – the reigning OUA Champions and fell 12-8. The win maintained Laurier's first place position.
Heidi Krasnozon of Brampton, Ont. had three goals and an assist for the Gaels in the losing effort while Jackie Byers of Mississauga, Ont. scored her 10th goal of the season.
In the afternoon matchup Byers scored four times and added two assists as the Gaels edged Toronto 13-12. Byers is now tied for third for goals in the OUA with 14.
On Sunday, Queen's travelled to Hamilton to meet the Guelph Gryphons on neutral soil. Queen's easily defeated Guelph 12-6 and improved their record to 5-1-0. They now sit just two points behind Laurier for first place.
Next week Queen's has a chance to challenge the Golden Hawks for first place once again when the Gaels host Laurier on October 4. The tilt takes place at North Field on West Campus beginning at 9:00am. Hours later, Queen's will host Western at 1:00pm.
