Two Gaels selected for tryout to Canada Junior National Team

Kingston, Ont. (May 21, 2008) – Gaels Joren Zeeman (Cambridge, Ont.) and Michael Amoroso (Toronto) have been selected to try out for the 2008 Junior Men's National Volleyball Team.

The camp will run from May 25 to 28 at the Team Canada Volleyball Centre in Winnipeg with the top 12 athletes being selected from a pool of 19 athletes. If successful, Zeeman and Amoroso will represent Canada at the 2008 NORCECA Junior Men's Continental Championship in El Salvador from June 28 to July 6.

The purpose of the Junior National Team Program is to identify, select and train a group of young athletes who have a future at the Senior National level and offer them the opportunity to train and represent Canada in international competition at an earlier age.

Last season Zeeman claimed an CIS All-Canadian Rookie and the Alfie Pierce Award winner (Queen's top rookie) while Amoroso cracked the Queen's starting line-up this season. The Gaels captured the OUA Silver medal and both will be key players in the future success for the Golden Gaels.

Former Gael, Adam Simac of Ottawa has been selected to the Canadian Senior Men's Volleyball Team. Simac, a member of the Gaels volleyball program from 2003-2006 was a key member of the 2006 OUA Championship squad.

Other Gaels who have played for the Canadian Senior Volleyball team were David Kantor (1997-2004) and Mike Hartel (2003).
