Kingston, Ont. (November 29, 2008) – The Concordia Stingers dumped the Queen's Gaels 2-0 closing out the first half of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) men's hockey season.
Coming off an impressive 2-1 overtime victory over the UQTR Patriotes last evening, Queen's failed to muster any offence and were unable to score against Stingers netminder Maxime Joyal of Chateauguay, Que. Joyal stopped all 27 shots he faced for his fourth shutout of the season.
On the other side of the ice, Brady Morrison of Thamesville, Ont., stopped 29 of the 31 shots he faced in the losing effort.
After a scoreless first period, Concordia struck early in the second period with a power-play goal by Nicolas D'Aoust of Lorraine, Que. The goal was assisted by Eric Begin of St. Lambert, Que., and Jesse Goodsell of Ayer's Cliff, Que.. Goodsell would add another assist in the third when Renaud De Alliers of Sorel-Tracy, Que. set up Simon-Pierre Sauve to close the scoring at 2-0.
This was the second time in a little over the week the Gaels were handed a defeat by Concordia.  Last Saturday, Concordia shelved the Gaels 3-0 in Montreal.
Queen's will head into the break with a 6-9-0-2 record and are just one point shy of first place of Toronto in the Mid-East division. Toronto has an opportunity to move three points ahead when they play the Carleton Ravens in Ottawa – that game is set for 7:30pm.
The Gaels will break for exams and holidays returning to action on January 9 when they host the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the Kingston Memorial Centre. Queen's and Lakehead are scheduled to play twice that weekend with the first game set for 7:30pm and the second set for 2:30pm
