Turnovers prove costly in 72-57 loss to Western

Kingston, Ont. (November 28, 2008) – Queen's offence stalled in the fourth quarter as the Gaels were dealt a difficult 72-57 loss by the Western Mustangs on Friday night in Bartlett Gym on campus at Queen's University.

The Gaels have now posted four straight losses and their record sits at 2-5 good for fifth place in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) East division.

The game was much closer than the score would indicate as Western pulled away in the fourth quarter posting 27-points while Queen's could only muster 13. Overall the Gaels committed 26 turnovers with the majority coming in the fourth frame leading to Queen's stalled offensive production.

At the half, Queen's was in contention leading 29-26 and just a point behind (45-44) heading into the final quarter.

Western's Alex Brzozowizcz of Oak Park, Ill., USA, was the game's leading scorer dropping 19 points including five conversions from behind the three-point line. Keenan Jeppesen of Stoney Creek, Ont., and Ryan Barbeau of Belleville, Ont., was also in the double digits earning 15 points each.

Mitch Leger of Kingston, Ont. was the Gaels top player notching 14 points while Ryan Hairsine of St. Mary's Ont., notched 11. Tim Boyle of Belleville, Ont. was the game's top rebounder with nine.

The Gaels will look to snap its four game losing streak against the Windsor Lancers on Saturday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00pm.

NOTE: Two sport athlete, Scott Stinson of North Bay, Ont. made his home-debut on Friday earning 19 minutes on the floor which saw him claim six rebounds and three points. Stinson is an import from the Queen's football team and made his CIS basketball debut two weeks ago on the road. Several members from the football team were in attendance to support Stinson.
