Toronto (October 31, 2008) – It took a shootout to decide it, but the Gaels earned a crucial two points against east division rival Ryerson on Friday. The Gaels took the shootout to win 4-3.

Ryerson started the game outshooting the Gaels twelve to nine and scoring twice with goals from Alex Sharpe of Mount Forest, Ont. and Josh McNair of Sudbury, Ont.

Queen's would battle back with an early goal from Scott Kenway of Calgary, just 2:30 into the second period. The Gaels would go on a run scoring two straight power play goals off the sticks of Jeffery Johnstone of Etobicoke, Ont. and Clint McCullough of Aurora, Ont.

Ryerson would tie the game on a short-handed goal in a penalty ridden third period. The game was heated from the start and boiled over in the third as both teams would tally a combined 11 penalties in the final frame.

Undecided after 60 minutes the game would be settled in a shootout. Gaels goalie Mackenzie Ball of Corbyville, Ont. would stop Ryerson's McNair and give the Gaels the advantage. Forward Pat Doyle of Smith Falls, Ont. would score the game winner after both teams traded goals in the shootout.

Ball made 29 saves in the game and stopped an additional two in the shootout.

Queen's will play against division rivals Toronto tomorrow looking to put space between them and the Blues. Queen's is in first place with nine points, while Toronto is second with eight points. The Gaels record is now 4-3-0-1. Last weekend Queen's topped Toronto 4-1 and look for similar result on Saturday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm.
