Byers get a double hat-trick in 18-7 victory

Kingston, Ont. (October 5, 2008) – Jackie Byers of Mississauga, Ont. scored six times and added an assist as the Gaels defeated Guelph 18-7 Sunday afternoon.


The Gaels who fell short to Western and Laurier Saturday were looking to rebound The Gaels came out striking as Heidi Krosnozski of Brampton, Ont. scored just 1:11 into the game.


The Gaels would dominate the first half scoring seven goals before Guelph got onto the score sheet. Queen's went into the half with a commanding 10-1 lead.

Guelph scored three quick goals to climb back into the game. Queen's however was just too much for as Byers led the Gaels in the second half with four goals enrote to victory.

Lisa Mclaughlin of Whitby, Ont. had another strong showing tallying four goals in the winning effort. Mclaughlin is now in third place in OUA scoring with 25 and Byers is right behind her in fourth with 22.

With a 6-3 record the Gaels stay in second position after the weekend despite the two losses on Saturday. Queen's will have some time to rest as they will not play again until October 18th when they travel to London to take on McMaster.
