Kingston, Ont. (October 4, 2008) – Queen's walked away empty on Saturday falling to Wilfrid Laurier 15-10 and then to Western 8-7 in OUA women's lacrosse action.
In the morning matchup the Gaels looked for victory against the defending OUA Champions trading multiple goals in the first half and posting an 8-8 tie heading into the final half. Laurier opened the second half by working the offensive zone and preventing the Gaels from capitalizing on any scoring threat. Laurier's precision passing was the difference as they connected seven times in the second half to secure a 15-10 victory.
Martha Ross of Newton, Ont. was the Gaels top scorer recording four goals and adding an assist. Leading the scoring for the Golden Hawks was Megan Fox of Whitby, Ont. with four goals. With the win, Laurier maintained their unblemished record and sit in first place of the OUA with 21 points.
In the afternoon match-up, Western took aim at the Gaels coming out with energy keeping the game close with just four goals scored apiece before the half. In the second half, Western took a quick lead and the Gaels tried to battle back, but couldn't recover.
Lisa McLaughlin of Whitby, Ont. was the Gaels top scorer posting four goals.
Queen's is now 5-3 and sit tied for second place with the University of Toronto with 15 points. With the win earlier over the Gaels, Laurier maintained their unblemished record and sit in first place of the OUA with 21 points.
The Gaels will look for an opportunity to move into sole possession of second place on Sunday as Queen's will take on Guelph beginning at 1:00pm at the North Field of West Campus. Toronto will play Western just prior to the Queen's game on North Field of West Campus as well.
