Waterloo, Ont. (October 19, 2008) - Queen's needed three wins in this weekend to secure second place in the OUA and they succeeded by sweeping it's weekend matches.
The Gaels met McMaster on Saturday afternoon and defeated the Marauders 17-8. Queen's had nine different scorers with Kesley Eriksen of Andover, Ont., Jackie Byers of Mississauga, Ont. and
Lisa McLaughlin of Whitby, Ont. all scored three goals apiece.
On Sunday morning the Gaels took on McGill handing the Martlets a 21-3 defeat. Queen's spread the goals around once again having 11 different scores with
Martha Ross of Newton, Man, scoring six goals. In the afternoon match Queen's was took on third place Western who had beat Queen's in their last meeting 8-7. The Gaels were able to turn away Western's offensive punch defeating the Mustangs 18-11. McLaughlin led the way with eight goals while Byers had four.
The Gaels will return to Waterloo next week (October 25 & 26) when the OUA Championships are hosted by Wilfrid Laurier who are the defending champions. Queen's will face Western on Saturday morning to determine who will play for gold on Sunday.
