Kingston, Ont. (October 11, 2008) –
Clinton McCullough of Aurora, Ont. had two game tying goals helping the Gaels to a 7-2 victory over the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) during a Saturday matinee at the Kingston Memorial Centre.
UOIT opened the scoring at 4:11the first period when Nathan Spailing of Drayton, Ont. beat Queen's goalie
Brady Morrison of Thamesville, Ont. Just nineteen seconds later McCullough evened the score posting an unassisted goal to tie the game at 1-1.
McCullough would go on to tie the game once again after OUIT's Brent Varty of Oshawa, Ont. scored on the power play at 14:36 of the first period. The second year McCullough notched his second of the game at 17:54 on a pass from
Ben Munroe of Kingston, Ont. and
Pat Doyle of Smiths Falls, Ont.
With the game tying heroics over, the Gaels piled on the goals scoring five unanswered to secure the 7-2 victory.
Jeffery Johnstone of Etobicoke, Ont. also scored two while Jonathan Lawrance of Steinbach, Man. and rookie forward
Scott Kenway of Calgary each posted a goal and an assist in Queen's first victory of the season. Morrison allowed just two goals and recorded 31 saves to secure his first win of the season.
Queen's will travel to Guelph next Friday night to face the Gryphons. Both Guelph and Queen's are 1-2 on the season. Game time is set for 7:30pm.
Note: Queen's held a food drive Friday and Saturday evening and were successful in raising over 100 lbs of food for the Queen's University Food Bank. Thank you to all that donated over the Thanksgiving weekend.
