In his seventh year with Queen's Football (sixth season of competition), Steve Snyder led Queen's to their first Yates Cup championship in 16 years, defeating the defending champion Laurier Golden Hawks 30–27 to capture the OUA title.
The championship marked Queen’s third Yates Cup appearance under Snyder, following previous trips to the conference final in 2021 and 2022.
In both 2023 and 2024, the Gaels posted 5–3 regular-season records and advanced to the OUA semifinals.
During the 2022 campaign, Queen’s finished 7–1 and earned a berth in the Yates Cup. The year prior, in 2021, the program’s return following the COVID-19 pandemic, Snyder guided the Gaels to a perfect 6–0 regular season and a Yates Cup appearance, hosted at Richardson Stadium.
Snyder joined Queen’s ahead of the 2019 season, finishing 3–5 in his first year. After opening the season with three consecutive losses, the Gaels closed with a 3–2 record down the stretch. The 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Prior to his time with Queen’s, Snyder spent two seasons as the Offensive Coordinator for the Western Mustangs, helping the program earn the top-ranked offence in U SPORTS in 2017 and 2018, two Yates Cup victories, back-to-back Vanier Cup appearances, and the Vanier Cup title in 2017.
Â
He also served three seasons as the Offensive Coordinator for the St. Francis Xavier X-Men and two seasons as the Special Teams Coordinator for the Windsor Lancers at the U SPORTS level. Snyder also has experience coaching at the high school, Ontario Varsity Football League, provincial, and national level in Canada, and professionally in Germany.
