In his sixth season, Mark Bomba was named the OUA Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year in 2025, repeating as OUA Men’s Coach of the Year after leading Queen’s Cross Country to a championship sweep at the 2025 OUA Cross Country Championships, hosted in Kingston at Fort Henry. He followed that performance by earning the U SPORTS Fred Foot Award as Men’s Cross Country Coach of the Year, guiding the Gaels to their second consecutive national championship. The Queen’s women’s team also delivered a strong showing, finishing fourth at the U SPORTS Cross Country Championships.

During the 2025 Distance Track season, Bomba oversaw two individual gold medal performances at the U SPORTS Track & Field Championships, as Jude Wheeler-Dee captured titles in both the 1,000m and 1,500m events.

In 2024, Bomba led the Gaels to an outstanding season, highlighted by the men’s team winning the OUA championship and the women’s team earning a silver medal. He was named the 2024 OUA Men’s Coach of the Year in recognition of the program’s continued success at both the provincial and national levels.


Bomba’s tenure at Queen’s has been marked by consistent success. In his first season, the Men’s team finished fifth overall, while the Women’s team placed 10th at the U SPORTS Championships. His strategic leadership has fostered growth and resilience within both programs.
 
With nearly 30 years of elite endurance coaching experience, Bomba has an extensive résumé that spans club, university, national, and international levels. He has worked with athletes who have competed on Olympic and World Championship stages, bringing a wealth of expertise to Queen's Athletics.
 
Previously, he served as Head Endurance Coordinator for Cross Country and Distance Track at Trinity Western University (TWU). During his time there, TWU Cross Country teams earned four U SPORTS medals and eight Canada West medals, including five conference championships. On the track, he contributed to two U SPORTS medals and five Canada West medals, highlighted by three conference titles.
 
Bomba’s accolades include being named Athletics Canada Development Coach of the Year (2016), U SPORTS Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year (2015), and Canada West Men’s (2016) and Women’s (2013–2016) Coach of the Year.
 
As a former elite athlete, Bomba represented Canada on several Athletics Canada National Distance teams. He is a Canadian medalist in events ranging from 1,500 metres to the half marathon and was a member of two IAAF World Cross Country Championship teams (2001, 2003).
