Gabriel deGroot is entering his eighth year Head Coach, Queen's Men's Volleyball. deGroot led the Gaels to the OUA Championship in 2024-25, the third provincial title for the program under deGroot’s lead. Queen’s finished the 2024-25 regular season with a 15-5 record before earning the OUA title and a second straight U SPORTS Men’s Volleyball Championship appearance. Queen’s Men’s Volleyball has appeared in the national championship tournament in five of seven seasons under deGroot.
He led the Gaels to back-to-back OUA championships in his first two seasons in charge, and was named the OUA East Division Coach of the Year in his first season in 2018-19, before the 2020-21 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
deGroot led Queen's to a 15-5 regular season record and OUA silver medal in 2023-24, before tying the program's best ever finish at the national level, finishing fourth overall at the U SPORTS Men's Volleyball Championship, hosted on home court.
The Gaels finished the fifth in the U SPORTS Men's Volleyball Championship in 2018-19 before the national championship was cancelled the year after.
deGroot was an assistant coach with Canada at the FIVB Volleyball Men's U21 World Championship in 2021. He has also been assistant/statistical analyst for Team Ontario at the Canada Summer Games in 2016-17.
deGroot started as the Pegasus Volleyball U18 head coach in 2016 where he prepares athletes for success at the university and college level.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Guelph and is also a trained Advanced Development Coach. At Guelph, he was an OUA All-Star and was named the  OUA Libero of the Year in consecutive seasons.
