Gencarelli is entering his sixth season as head coach of the Queen’s men’s soccer team. A certified Pre-B coach and a Provincial B License candidate, he has spent over eight years coaching at all levels of the game. His experience with players of all ages over the years has established him as one of the youngest premier educators of soccer players in Ontario.
Gencarelli began his coaching career at a young age, delivering soccer camps to youth boys and girls, focusing on developing technique and ball-mastery skills. With his passion for coaching on the rise, Gencarelli returned to his former high school, Regioplois-Notre Dame, in 2003. During his two-year tenure with the Panthers, Chris led the boy’s team to back-to-back City and Eastern Regional Championships, with a large majority of those players moving on to play at the University and Collegiate levels throughout Canada.
As a member of the Gaels, Gencarelli led the team in scoring in two of his four seasons, captaining the Gaels in his fourth and final season in 2006, In that same season, Gencarelli acted as a playing-assistant with Queen’s after suffering a season-ending knee injury that ended his season prematurely. In 2007, he was brought on as the Head Coach on an interim basis and led the team to a bronze medal finish at the OUA Championships, capturing the team’s first medal in five years.
Since returning to the program in 2010, the Gaels have finished with a winning record in each of his four seasons. He has amassed a record of 35-18-9, with his most successful season coming in 2012, where the Gaels finished with an overall record of 12-3-2, capturing their first OUA East division title in four years and qualifying for the OUA Final Four Championships. The team’s success was recognized by the OUA, with five Gaels earning all-star recognition, and Gencarelli earning OUA East Coach of the Year honours for the first time in his career.
