Huigenbos has been a part of the Queen's Men's Rugby program since 1997. In 2004 he took over as head coach after five seasons as a player and two as an assistant coach. From 2004 to 2013 he and his staff put together an impressive coaching resume having accumulated an .829 winning percentage (60-12-1) in the regular season and medals in every season since 2007. This includes OUA Championships in 2013, 2012 and 2009. In 2014 Huigenbos moved into the role of Performance Analyst.

From 2004 to the present, Huigenbos, Gary Gilks and the rest of the staff have coached an impressive number of high performing athletes. Most notably, the program has produced seven OUA rookies of the year, six OUA most valuable players and numerous players who have earned Canada selection at all levels. Recent Queen's Men's Rugby athletes have played for Canada Under-20, Canada 'A', Canada 7s and the National Senior Men's Team. Individually, Huigenbos collected OUA coach of the year honours in 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2012.

As is the tradition of the Gaels rugby program, Huigenbos began his playing days at Queen’s as a walk-on member of the fourth team in 1997 before earning a position on the Queen’s 1st XV team in 1999. During his final campaign in 2001 he led the league in tries scored and was was named an OUA All-Star (8-Man), capping off his career with an OUA Championship victory over the Western Mustangs at the former Kingston Field. Huigenbos graduated Queen's with a degree in Civil Engineering.

Following his playing career at Queen’s, Huigenbos played for Rugby Canada’s ‘The Academy’ in 2001 and 2002 being named to the Rugby Canada Super League East All-Star team in 2002. He was captain of the Niagara Thunder and the Ottawa Harlequins in the Rugby Canada Super League and was named MVP of the 2003 McCormick Cup Champion Brantford Harlequins.

In addition to his coaching roles with the Gaels, Huigenbos has been involved with Rugby Canada as a video analyst since 2005, including Head of Analysis from 2008 to 2012. In 2011 he was part the National Team staff at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

Huigenbos is a Professional Engineer and works for the City of Kingston as the Manager, Real Estate & Land Development. He and his wife Morgan reside in Kingston with their son Emmet.
