Marshall was named the defensive coordinator for the 2014 season and will enter his fourth year with the Gaels in 2017. Prior to Queen's Marshall served as the defensive coordinator for the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League (CFL). 

With 25 years of experience as a defensive coach, including 18 in the CFL, Marshall has led strong defensive units through two division championships, two Grey Cup appearances and a 2003 Eskimo Grey Cup win.

Marshall began his coaching career in 1990 then spent a year as head coach for the Ottawa Bootleggers of the Empire Football League. The next three years, he served as head coach for the Ottawa Sooners of the Canadian Junior Football League.

Greg moved to the CFL coaching ranks with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1994, spending six seasons as their defensive coordinator and defensive line coach. In 2000, Marshall headed west for five seasons with the Edmonton Eskimos and later served as the defensive coordinator and assistant head coach for the Ottawa Renegades during their final season in 2005. The next year he joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as their defensive line coach and defensive coordinator, a position he held for three seasons. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats brought Marshall on for the 2009 season as their defensive coordinator and assistant head coach. Marshall got his first head coaching job with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2011.

He played nine seasons as a defensive lineman with the Ottawa Rough Riders. He was drafted in the 7th round of the 1978 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles after playing defensive tackle with Oregon State.
