After a tight first half, Queen's Football ran away from the host Toronto Varsity Blues in the second half of their season opener, defeating their historic rivals 28-12 on Sunday night at Varsity Stadium.

Tyler Mullan (Arts & Science), who entered the 2026 season second on Queen's Football's all-time field goal list, was a perfect 4-4 on field goals to become the program's all-time leader in field goals with 58, surpassing Queen's Football Kicking Coach and Special Teams Assistant Nick Liberatore.
Queen's never trailed in their season-opening win, but led just 12-9 at half time before outscoring Toronto 16-3 in the second half to cruise to the 16-point victory.
Quarterback
Alex Vreeken (Kinesiology), who capped Queen's first drive of the game with a touchdown to
Jack Ashby-Jacobs (Health Studies) led the offence for the Tricolour, finishing the game with 366 passing yards and a touchdown on 26-36 passing.
Four receivers finished with more than 50 receiving yards in the win for Queen's, led by H-Back
Mateo Tuioti (Arts & Science), who recorded four receptions for 90 yards.
Russell Weir (Economics) led Queen's in receptions, with seven for 89 yards.
Cedric Smith (Arts & Science) had four receptions for 63 yards, including a highlight reel grab in the first quarter, and
Logan Walton (Economics) added four receptions for 55 yards.
Jayce Baldwin (Health Studies) led Queen's Football in rushing in the win, finishing the game with six carries for 54 yards and a highlight reel touchdown early in the third quarter, which opened up the game for Queen's.
Queen's defence had a massive performance in the season opener, holding the Varsity Blues to just 12 points, and only three in the second half. Queen's pressured Toronto all night long, finishing the win with four sacks and eight tackles for a loss.
Oliver Jackson (Film & Media),
Daniel Mikwete (Arts & Science), and Jacob Balwin (Economics) each recorded a sack, while
Steven Kpehe (Kinesiology) and D.J. Ryan (Health Studies) shared one. Baldwin added another tackle for a loss in the win as well.
Linebacker
James Gillingham (Arts & Science) led Queen's Football in tackles with seven (six solo, two assisted).
Queen's Football is off next week, with an early Week 2 bye. Queen's returns to Richardson Stadium for their home opener in Week 3, taking on the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 5 PM.
