Queen's Men's Hockey fell to the UNB Reds 5-2 Friday night in the quarterfinals of the U SPORTS Men's Hockey Championship.
After the Reds, who came into the national championship tournament as the No. 2 seed, jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the second period, the Gaels battled back to pull within a goal midway through the third period.Â
Aidan Castle (Arts & Science) finished a beautiful play with teammate
Dharan Cap (Applied Science) by finding the back of the net to get Queen's on the board in the second period, less than a minute after UNB scored their third goal of the game.Â
And then
Sebbie Johnson (Arts & Science) found the rebound and buried the puck past the Reds goalie midway through the third period, with
Colin Holmes (Arts & Science) picking up the assist, to cut the Reds' lead over the Gaels to 3-2.
Queen's kept the pressure on and almost tied the game, but UNB would go on to score two late goals and hold on for the three-goal victory.
Tanner Wickware (Graduate Studies), who has been outstanding for Queen's all post-season, finished the game with 33 saves. The Gaels managed 21 shots on goal against the Reds.
With the loss, Queen's Men's Hockey's tremendous 2025-26 season comes to an end, with the Gaels having earned the OUA bronze medal and a berth in the U SPORTS Men's Hockey Championship.
