The Queen's Gaels women's hockey team closed out the regular season with a 3-2 victory over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Saturday, February 14, celebrating Senior Night with a hard-fought win at home.
Today, the Gaels honoured graduating seniors
Aislin Tobin-Fretwell (Biochemistry),
Sara Di Filippo (Concurrent Education/Arts),
Emma Tennant (Mechanical Engineering),
Carys Collie (Life Sciences), and
Sophie Hudson (Chemical Engineering) for their leadership and commitment to the team.
The Gaels opened the scoring midway through the first period when
Jada Wood (Arts & Science) found the back of the net, assisted by
Mikayla Cranney (Arts & Science) and
Scarlett Nowakowski (Commerce). Ontario Tech responded in the second period, but Wood struck again at 11:51 to restore the Gaels' lead, with assists from
Scarlett Nowakowski (Commerce) and
Sophie Hudson (Chemical Engineering).
The Ridgebacks tied the game early in the third period, setting up a tense finish. With time winding down,
Sophie Hudson (Chemical Engineering) delivered the decisive moment, scoring off a setup from
Mikayla Cranney (Arts & Science) to secure the 3-2 victory. In goal,
Emma Tennant (Mechanical Engineering) made 33 saves throughout the game to preserve the win.
The victory marks a strong conclusion to the regular season for the Gaels! Cheer on the Gaels as they turn their focus to the upcoming OUA Playoffs!
