Queen's Rowing capture five gold, eight silver, eight bronze medals at Head of the Trent Regatta

Queen's Rowing had a very strong showing at their first regatta of the season, capturing 21 total medals at the Head of the Trent Regatta in Peterborough, Ont. this past weekend.

The Gaels finished the event with five gold medals, eight silver medals, and eight bronze medals, while adding one more bronze in the alumni category.

Queen's earned gold medals in the Women's LWT 1x, Women's 2-, Women's LWT 2-, Men's 1X, and Men's LWT 4+.

Gillian Jansen (Life Science: Specialization) won for the Gaels in the Women's LWT 1x, Jacquie Groenewegen (Computer Engineering) and Kaija Erickson (Kinesiology) won for the Gaels in the Women's 2-, and Jansen and Isi Ferguson won for the Gaels in the Women's LWT 2-.

On the Men's side, Nigel Radhakrishnan (Electrical Engineering) won for Queen's in the Men's 1X, and Radhakrishnan, Alex Ladage (Graduate Studies), Leo Biancaniello (Applied Science), Liam Shapland, and cox Maddy Worthy (Arts) won for Queen's in the Men's LWT 4+.

The Gaels earned silver medals in the Women's 1X, Women's 8+, Women's LWT 8+, Men's LWT 1x, Men's 2-, Men's LWT 2+, Men's JV 2x, and Men's JV 4+.

Julia Schuurmans (Medicine) captured silver in the Women's 1X, the team of Groenewegen, Schuurmans, Erickson, Seija Erickson (Kinesiology), Roxy Nazar (Master of Public Health), Emerson Wehmeyer (Applied Science), Kenzie Thompson (Applied Science), Alexis McLaughlin (Mechanical Engineering), and cox Ava Wong (Commerce) captured silver in the Women's 8+, and Lucy Finlayson (Health Sciences), Abigail Cox (Sciences), Sophie Robbins (Physics and Computer Science), Hadley Micheal, Juliet Fandrich (Arts & Science), Solena Chernov, Kaie Bain (Arts & Science), Ayva Cottrell (Arts & Science), and cox Rowan Lawlor (Life Sciences and Biochemistry) captured silver in the Women's LWT 8+.

On the Men's side, Biancaniello captured silver in the Men's LWT 1x, Alex Wittstock (Smith School of Business) and James MacNeil (Kinesiology) captured silver in the Men's 2-, Radhakrishnan and Shapland captured silver in the Men's LWT 2+, Liam Haberl (Mining Engineering) and Zach Gornstein (Arts) captured silver in the Men's JV 2x, and Atticus Luciani (Engineering), Levi Cook (Chemical Engineering), Leyton Colpitts (Mechanical Engineering), Sean Henry, and cox Sean O'Connor captured silver in the Men's JV 4+.

Queen's earned bronze medals in the Women's LWT 2x, Women's 4+, Women's LWT 4+, Women's JV 4x, Men's LWT 4+, Men's 8+, Men's LWT 8+, and Men's JV 2x.

Sophie Aspinall (Health Sciences) and Isabel Geiger won bronze in the Women's LWT 2x, Seija Erickson, Nazar, McLaughlin, Thompson, and cox Wong won bronze in the Women's 4+, Ferguson, Aspinall, Geiger, Orla Bailey, and cox Nicole Schmidt (Nursing) won bronze in the Women's LWT 4+, and Jade Van Klei (Education), Piper Rome (Arts & Science), Charlotte Farrell (Con-Ed), Simone Duifhuis (Civil Engineering) and cox Teresa Gentes (Arts & Science) won bronze in the Women's JV 4x.

On the Men's side, Markus Muller, Kieran Fitzpatrick (Commerce), Dennis Ovdiyenko (Mining Engineering), James Cuff, and cox Lauren Schwandt (Geological Engineering) won bronze in the Men's LWT 4+, Wittstock, Aiden MacPhail (Arts Econ), Connor Dickson (Applied Science), James MacNeil (Kinesiology), Andrew Schrompf, Josh Mills (Applied Science), Peyton Williams (Applied Science), Chase Morris (Smith Engineering), and cox Sean O'Connor won bronze in the Men's 8+, Muller, Ovdiyenko, Fitzpatrick, Cuff, Noah Paquin (Smith Engineering), Jackson Schwandt (Mathematical Physics), Ben Schindler (Concurrent Ed/Arts), Liam Haughian (Engineering), and cox Schwandt won bronze in the Men's LWT 8+, and Owen Kazimirski and Sam MacKenzie (Mining Engineering) won bronze in the Men's JV 2x.

Queen's also added a bronze in the Men's Alumni 2x event, with Josh Leung and Drew Crix finishing third.

The Gaels are back on the water this coming weekend, competing in the Brock Invitational in St. Catharines, Ont. on Saturday, Oct. 10.
