The Queen's Gaels women's volleyball team earned a straight-sets victory over the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, January 31, in a special Senior Night matchup at home. The Gaels delivered a composed and competitive performance with set wins of 26-24, 26-24, and 25-21, closing out the match in three tightly contested sets.
Before the game, the Gaels honoured their graduating seniors: libero
Rachael Capasso (Education), outside hitters
Pascale Galarneau (Health Sciences) and
Abigail McAlpine (Arts & Science), middle
Christine Abu (Arts & Science), and libero
Holly Biasi (Arts & Science). The group was recognized for their leadership and contributions to the team.
The opening set was tightly contested, with both teams trading points deep into rallies. The Gaels stayed composed in the closing moments, highlighted by a timely kill from
Claire Carter (Business), set up by
Holly Biasi (Arts & Science), that helped push the Gaels ahead and secure the 26-24 set win.
Momentum carried into the second set, where the Gaels once again found themselves locked in a back-and-forth battle. Setter,
Kennedy Millin (Education) stepped up with a well-placed kill of her own, catching McMaster off guard and helping the Gaels edge out another 26-24 victory.
In the third set, the Gaels played with confidence and control, building pressure through strong net play and steady defence. A key moment came when
Abigail McAlpine (Arts & Science) finished a crucial point to maintain the Gaels' advantage, allowing them to close out the set 25-21.
The win capped off a memorable Senior Night, as the Gaels combined strong execution with resilience in key moments to earn the straight-sets victory.
Cheer on the Gaels as they face the Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday, February 6th!
