Queen's Women's Hockey remained on home ice this afternoon to host cross-division rivals, the Guelph Gryphons. With just two points separating the teams in the OUA standings, the Gaels aimed to protect their perfect home record, but the Gryphons came away with a 4–1 victory, handing Queen's a tough loss at Kingston Memorial Centre.
The Gryphons opened the scoring at 8:30 of the first period and added an early second-period goal to take a 2–0 lead. Special teams played a big role in the third period, as Guelph scored again at the midway point. Later, a strange bounce from the goal line allowed the Gryphons to push their lead to 4–0. Late in the frame, Sienna Bullen (Arts & Sciences) went bar-down to get Queen's on the board, but Guelph held on to secure the 4–1 win.
Queen's Women's Hockey now hits the road for a back-to-back weekend showdown. On Friday, January 30, the Gaels face the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in Oshawa at 7 p.m., before heading to North York on Saturday, January 31, for a 3 p.m. matchup against the York Lions. All games will be streamed live on OUA.TV as Queen's looks to stay atop the East Division and make a push toward the OUA playoffs.
