Queen's Men's Basketball returned to the ARC Saturday evening, riding the momentum from a big offensive performance the night before. They faced the York Lions in the annual Shoot for the Cure matchup, honoring the Canadian Cancer Society.
From the opening tip, the Gaels came out firing. Their spacing was sharp, ball movement crisp, and they attacked the rim with confidence, putting York on their heels early. Ashton Bain (Arts) led the offensive charge, finishing with 17 points on the night, while Ollie Engen (Kinesiology) added 15 points and six rebounds, and Tyson Lama (Commerce) contributed 12 points. The Gaels dominated scoring 46 points inside the paint, and controlled the boards with 48 total rebounds.
Queen's relentless pace and defensive pressure created turnovers and transition opportunities, allowing them to steadily pull away. By the end of the game, the Gaels had posted a commanding 101–73 victory, completing a weekend sweep.
Speaking after the win, Tyson Lama (Commerce) reflected on the preparation for the weekend, coming off a tough prior weekend on the road: "Same as always, practice this week. Came off a tough one, so the boys were really fired up to get two wins, and we got it—a great team win."
On his team's performance, Lama added, "Everyone was playing team basketball. I was just getting cuts off it—guys were making it easy on me. I got lots of easy shots, felt good."
