Logan Biggs (Kinesiology) who scored two of the three goals for her team. Gaels no. 26
Mikayla Cranney (Arts & Scieces) led the game in points with three after two assists and a goal. Being the Gaels last home-game of the season, this win is hopeful to boost momentum and confidence going into the playoffs.
The final game at the Gaels home rink of Kingston Memorial Center means honouring the senior players departing from the program. This year the Gaels honoured six players: Gaels captain no. 27
Charlotte Melindy (Sociology), no. 10
Alyson Reeves (Commerce), No. 19
Rebecca Thompson (Arts & Sciences), no. 20
Logan Biggs (Kinesiology), no. 5
Kelsey Dunn (Kinesiology), and no. 13
Sarah Campbell (Commerce & Law). A great win on such a celebratory day!
The first period saw a slow start for both teams although the Gaels seemed to pick up speed and strategy against their opponents after beating out the Gee-gees power play unit and a strong save by Gaels goalie no. 1
Emma Tennant (Mechanical Engineering). Just after the half-way mark, Biggs scored after an assist by Cranney, giving the Gaels the lead early in the game. The second goal of the period was scored with just over a minute left of game-play by Cranney during a Gaels power-play after the Bold got called for too many men on the ice. A quick shot by no. 24 Sara Di Fillipo (Con-Ed) to Melindy who found Cranney. Cranney shot across traffic into the net giving the Gaels a boost of confidence going into the second. The first period saw 11 shot attempts by the Gaels and 8 by the Bold.
19 seconds into the second period, Biggs scored the Gaels their third goal of the game, assisted by Cranney, adding another point to both players afternoons. This forced the Bold to make a goalie change, attempting to stay in the game against the Gaels. Six minutes later, the Bold scored on Tennant while the Gaels fought their second Bold power-play of the game. Tennant maintained her ground in net though with a great save with two minutes left in the period. The second period closed with the Gaels leading 3-1 with 14 shots attempted in the second, while the Bold shot 13.
The Gaels kept their cool during the third maintaining pressure and strong puck possession, not allowing the Bold to inch any closer to their lead. The Gaels saw two power-play opportunities although were unable to capitalize on either. The third period closed with the same score as it started, meaning a great win for the Gaels.
