Queen's Men's Hockey finished off the sweep of their OUA East Semifinal series with a win over the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday night.
Queen's started off strong, putting up the lone first period goal just under nine minutes into the game.
Daniel Michaud (Arts & Science) sprung
Ian Lemieux (Arts & Science) in the slot with a beautiful pass and Lemieux made no mistake, putting it top corner.
The momentum for Queen's continued into the second period when the Gaels scored two goals in quick succession in the first few minutes of the period.
Holden Katzalay (Computing) capitalized on an early second period powerplay, while
Derek Hamilton (Arts & Science) followed it up with a beautiful finish on a tic-tac-toe play from Katzalay and Michaud.
Midway through the second period,
Nolan Hutcheson (Health Studies) took the puck from end-to-end to score a breakaway goal, extending the Gaels' lead to four.
Ottawa followed it up in the second with two goals of their own to cut the Gaels' lead in half.
The third period saw much of the same as the Gaels and Gee-Gees traded goals.
Ante Zlomislic (Applied Science) notched a shorthanded goal for Queen's four minutes into the final frame.
After a Gee-Gees'Â powerplay goal shortly after, Hutcheson recorded his second of the night, assisted by Katzalay. Katzalay went on to add an empty-netter to give the Gaels the game two victory and a series win.
Christian Purboo (Economics) turned away 22 saves in the victory.
The Gaels now await their OUA East Final opponent from the McGill and Concordia series which is currently tied a game apiece. The two teams meet for game three on Saturday at 7:00 PM in Montreal.
